About Us

Governance and Livelihoods Agenda (AgendaGL) is committed to fostering social accountability as a key pillar of our work in uplifting communities. We believe that strengthening the relationship between citizens and those in positions of power is essential for sustainable development. Through our initiatives, we empower individuals and communities to actively participate in governance processes, demand transparency, and hold institutions accountable for service delivery. By nurturing leadership at all levels, we create spaces for dialogue, advocacy, and collective action, ensuring that communities have a voice in shaping policies and decisions that affect their lives. Our approach promotes inclusive development, equity, and responsive governance, reinforcing our mission to build resilient and empowered communities.

What We Do

At Governance and Livelihoods Agenda (AgendaGL), we focus on fostering social accountability and enhancing community livelihoods by nurturing leadership and active citizenship. Our work is built on the belief that empowered communities can drive sustainable change by holding decision-makers accountable and actively participating in governance processes. Our key areas of work include:

1. Promoting Social Accountability

We strengthen the relationship between communities and those in power by creating platforms for engagement, transparency, and accountability. Our social accountability work includes:

  • Civic Education & Awareness: We educate communities about their rights, responsibilities, and the mechanisms available for holding authorities accountable.

  • Participatory Governance: We facilitate community dialogues, town hall meetings, and citizen forums where people can voice concerns, provide feedback, and engage with policymakers.

  • Public Service Monitoring: We support communities in tracking and evaluating public service delivery, ensuring that resources are used effectively and that service providers fulfill their obligations.

  • Advocacy & Policy Influence: We work with communities to advocate for policy changes that promote equity, inclusion, and improved public services.

2. Leadership Development & Capacity Building

We believe that strong leadership at all levels is key to achieving sustainable development. Our leadership programs include:

  • Youth Leadership & Empowerment: Training young people in governance, advocacy, and entrepreneurship to prepare them as future leaders.

  • Community Leadership Training: Strengthening the leadership skills of community representatives, activists, and local leaders to effectively engage in governance and accountability efforts.

  • Women’s Leadership & Inclusion: Encouraging and supporting women's participation in leadership roles, governance structures, and decision-making processes.

3. Strengthening Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment

Sustainable livelihoods are essential for resilient communities. We support economic empowerment through:

  • Entrepreneurship & Skills Development: Providing training in business skills, financial literacy, and vocational skills to enhance income generation.

  • Cooperative & Small Business Support: Helping communities establish cooperatives and small enterprises to improve economic self-sufficiency.

  • Access to Resources & Opportunities: Connecting individuals and groups with funding, mentorship, and networks that facilitate economic growth.

4. Conflict Prevention & Social Cohesion

We work to build peaceful, inclusive communities by fostering dialogue and promoting social cohesion. Our efforts include:

  • Violence Prevention in Schools & Communities: Implementing programs that equip young people and community members with conflict resolution and mediation skills.

  • Intercultural & Interfaith Dialogue: Facilitating discussions that bridge divides and promote mutual understanding among diverse groups.

  • Healing & Reconciliation Initiatives: Supporting post-conflict communities in rebuilding trust and fostering long-term peace.

5. Research, Policy Engagement, & Knowledge Sharing

Our work is informed by evidence-based approaches. We conduct research and engage with policymakers to influence positive change by:

  • Participatory Action Research: Working with communities to generate knowledge on governance, livelihoods, and social accountability.

  • Policy Advocacy & Engagement: Collaborating with government institutions, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to shape policies that address community needs.

  • Publishing & Knowledge Dissemination: Sharing insights, best practices, and policy recommendations through reports, toolkits, and public dialogues.
