Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Production
Transforming Organic Waste into Sustainable Wealth
AgendaGL is pioneering Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Production as an innovative climate-smart agricultural solution that addresses food waste, improves food security, creates employment, and promotes environmental sustainability. By converting organic waste into high-quality insect protein and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer (frass), BSF farming supports a circular economy where waste becomes a valuable resource.
Our programme combines commercial production with community empowerment, enabling farmers, youth, women, cooperatives, schools, and entrepreneurs to establish profitable BSF enterprises while contributing to cleaner communities and more resilient agricultural systems.
Oyster Mushroom Production
Growing Nutritious Food, Sustainable Enterprises, and Resilient Communities
AgendaGL promotes Oyster Mushroom Production as a sustainable livelihood and climate-smart agricultural enterprise that enhances food security, creates employment, and improves household incomes. Oyster mushrooms are highly nutritious, easy to cultivate, require minimal land, and can be grown using locally available agricultural by-products such as straw, sawdust, maize stalks, sugarcane bagasse, and other crop residues.
Through practical training, technical support, enterprise development, and market linkages, AgendaGL empowers youth, women, smallholder farmers, cooperatives, schools, and community organisations to establish profitable mushroom enterprises that contribute to healthier diets, stronger local economies, and environmental sustainability.
Promoting Social Cohesion and Prevention of Collective Violence
Stronger Communities. Accountable Governance. Peaceful Change.
AgendaGL implemented a community-based project across rural municipalities in northern KwaZulu-Natal to promote social cohesion, strengthen civic agency and prevent collective violence. The initiative responded to poor governance, weak financial management, inadequate service delivery and limited community participation by helping residents organise around shared priorities and engage local government constructively.
The project also strengthened local leadership and democratic structures, promoted transparency, supported community-based conflict-resolution mechanisms and worked with schools to create safer spaces for learners. Lessons from the intervention were documented to improve future programmes and support the scaling of effective approaches.
Sustainable Vegetable Gardens
Growing Food. Empowering Women. Strengthening Families.
AgendaGL supported the development of sustainable greenhouse vegetable gardens for women-headed households in Mbizana, Alfred Nzo District. The project was designed to improve access to nutritious food while creating practical opportunities for women to strengthen household income and economic resilience.
By equipping participating households with the skills and resources needed to grow vegetables sustainably, the initiative aimed to advance household food security and improve the well-being of women and children. It also promoted greater self-reliance by enabling families to produce food for their own consumption and, where possible, generate income from surplus produce.
Community-Led Sustainable Resource Management in Mbizana
Empowering Communities to Protect Scarce Resources and Shape Better Decisions.
AgendaGL implemented a community engagement initiative in Mbizana Local Municipality, Eastern Cape, to strengthen local participation in the sustainable management of scarce resources. The project created opportunities for community members to contribute their knowledge, priorities and lived experiences to decisions affecting the use and protection of limited natural and public resources.
By promoting inclusive dialogue and shared decision-making, the initiative aimed to improve transparency, strengthen community ownership and support more sustainable local development. It also equipped residents to engage constructively with local authorities and other stakeholders on resource allocation, environmental responsibility and long-term community needs.

Empowering the Girl Child
Supporting Dignity, Confidence and Uninterrupted Learning.
AgendaGL distributed sanitary towels to schoolgirls across the Amathole District to help address period poverty and reduce menstruation-related school absenteeism. The initiative ensured that learners had access to essential menstrual hygiene products so they could attend school with dignity and confidence.
By removing a common barrier to education, the project aimed to keep girls in the classroom and support their academic participation and well-being. It reflected AgendaGL’s commitment to gender equality, educational access and the empowerment of young women and girls.
